I've come to learn that lossless/FLAC does not always mean "upgrade"
Yes, it's important to keep in mind that quality is the result of a chain of decisions, the file format being one member of that chain.

In terms of musicality, quality MP3s from pristine vinyl beat FLACs from battered LPs every time. I think this often gets overlooked.

I can't believe people are still arguing this.

FLAC is truly lossless. You are wrong if you think otherwise. I can prove it to you. This was put to bed 17 years ago. The numbers don't lie, you are just wrong and you need to accept this.

FLAC is truly lossless.

Indeed. Actually, I'm not so surprised to see the myth repeated. Music & collecting are both passionate things, and not everyone is technical enough to immediately spot the contradictions. It's kind of a cultural thing, too- music culture; online culture.

And although the thread is about "Fake Flacs," WAVs and AIFFs are vulnerable in exactly the same way.

Oh no, an agreement yet not at once!

I have never had a wave file be vulnerable in this way. I have been using wave files and computers since 1997, and I have been quite active since that time, I don't know what you are talking about. Please expound on this topic.

Oh, I may think you mean transcoding, oh that's no secret around here :D

Please expound on this topic.

They're vulnerable in exactly the same way.

Some guy has an MP3. He saves it to WAV & claims it's an original WAV.

"Fake FLAC" = "Fake WAV"

For the record, I had no idea I was even disagreeing with you there!
