The Mystery of RMS/LP 139....... the fog begins to clear
« on: October 17, 2020, 07:56:09 AM »
All a bit Sherlock Holmes for an early Saturday morning...
You may remember we have discussed this on previous boards and summised that Rouge 139 was unreleased.   See exhibits A and B:

Once I heard Silverrider85 was getting his hands on a Rouge catalogue I asked him to check out #139 as soon as it arrived....

And, Ta-Dah

So RMS/LP 139 existed in some form, even if never pressed to vinyl.  I don't think anyone has ever seen one and Discogs has no entry for it:

Maybe I'll email De Wolfe and ask.Could these tracks have been issued elsewhere on the label?  Maybe retitled?
Anyone have any clues?
Thanks Silverrider85 for at least beginning to solve this mystery.

That's really interesting!

My wild guess would be it was used for a commercial release by some artist and withdrawn.  Just a wild guess though.

I have a Valentino catalogue.  I found it stuck in a bunch of records one day.

I found a lot of great people over the years when it comes to buy library lots, but last year I was lucky to meet my best contact (located in the UK) where I regularly buy library records from, even till today ... And I got the chance to get a huge amount of library catalogs and other memorabilia.

To give an idea:

Wow! You need to scan all of these, Silver! Make searchable PDFs out of them :)

I remember this mystery of the Rouge label. This is interesting Retronic, I would assume 139 was never released and only recorded. One day we will have the elusive 139.

Ehh, wow! That's the biggest catalogue collection I've seen to date.

In that "Southern" letter/catalogue in the top right I spot the MML, NSL and Selected Sound logos - is the MML logo subtitled "Monique Music Library"? I've always been curious if this name was ever used to promote the label, it never appeard on any of the LPs, only in copyright paperwork.

Yes, it's indeed called Monique Music Library. Didn't knew that either before I saw the documents ...
I can scan some things if anyone wants a specific item.

Retronic, it would be awesome to contact De Wolfe and ask what this was all about, hope you'll get answer ...

I'm gonna take a wild guess that this LP was withdrawn before release like a few others suggested. One thought...is maybe these tunes ended up in another library or the vocal versions could exist commercially somewhere under some rare one off artist LP that can't be found.

I tried to see if I could find Rae/Mcdonald linked to any of these song titles on commercial artist albums and notta. But it's possible. One way to find out the story would be to hunt down one of these guys and ask em.

That's the same lines I was on.  I even wondered about comparing the lengths of tracks to other LPs to see if these were re-titled and used elsewhere or commercially.   Is it possible a track sounded too much like a commercial track by another artist (sound-a-like-rip-off) and they pulled it for fear of being challenged/ sued?  The other tracks would have popped up somewhere though I suspect.

I did email De Wolfe - na-da.
