RIP Il Maestro (Ennio Morricone 1928-2020)
« on: July 06, 2020, 09:06:45 AM »
The Maestro, THE MAN, Ennio Morricone has passed away.

Morricone holds a special place for me, as I'm sure he does many others, as he was my gateway into Italian cinematic music, and he was the conduit that opened up the world of Library music to me. As film composers go, he was unequaled...for me the best. I particularly loved his Giallo scores and the tracks with a more erotic tone. Even people with very little knowledge of Italian Westerns will forever associate the sounds Morricone pioneered for the genre, not to mention all the great scores composed across many, many genres.

Morricone's compositions occasionally tread a line between sacred and profane. I remember being hit like a ton a bricks and brought to tears the first time I heard his Mariangela e la Seduzione (Alternate Version), with a church-like organ reminiscent of a sacred Cathedral juxtaposed with the erotic vocals of Edda Dell'Orso.

RIP Ennio!
