Sonoton Robot Suite - Laszlo Bencker
« on: June 21, 2020, 02:37:49 AM »
I need about half of these, but I thought it might be a good idea to try to gather them all in one place.

Laszlo Bencker has his name on these, but a good portion of the tracks are credited to John Epping.

As for the CD repackages vs the original LPs, I would like to see for myself what the differences are, so there is value in collecting them all.

Hi AbeFroman!

SON 296 & SON 260 are my rips, they are both LP-rips. The others are from BlackWatchPlaid's Sonoton megathread and are CD/FLAC files.
I'd really like to buy the "Robot Couture" LP, but due to upcoming economic difficulties that I have at the moment, I cannot do now. My money is spent on eggs and cheese for now...  :P

Hopefully all of the jingles and underscores that you're looking for are included in the CD-rips.

These albums are absolutely fantastic, and they are all close to my heart. Enjoy! :)

Thanks Bongo!  Over half-way there right off the bat!

I know there are subtle differences between the LP and CD versions.  I'll see if I can find some examples in what we have already.

Underscores 2 on LP has been the toughest to track down.  Hopefully, someone can dig it up!

I love the music, but I'm baffled by how the albums/tracks are organized.

Below is a simplified summary of all Laszlo Bencker's "Robot" albums listed on his Discogs artist page:

Lady Robot  (2 versions):
1) Sonoton ‎– SON 260 1986 LP, 14 tracks
2) Sonoton Recorded Music Library ‎– SCD002 1987 CD, 11 tracks

Lady Robot - Jingles & Underscores ‎(LP)
Sonoton SON 261 DIGITAL 1986  47 tracks

Robot Couture  (2 versions):
1) Sonoton ‎– SON 295  1988 LP, 14 tracks
2) Sonoton Recorded Music Library ‎– SCD 017 1988 CD, 14 tracks

Robot Couture - (Underscores 1)
Sonoton ‎– SON 296  1988 LP, 34 tracks

Robot Couture - (Underscores 2)
Sonoton ‎– SON 297  1988 LP, 30 tracks

I'd like to get all of them, but at this point, I'm not even sure what "all of them" means…

Here's what I *think* I have from the mediafire DLs in this thread:

SON 260 - Lady Robot (1986) 14 trks
SON 261 - Lady Robot Jingles & Underscores (1986) 49 trks
SCD 017 - Robot Couture (1988) 28 trks
SON 296 - Robot Couture - Underscores 1 (1988) 34 trks

kimhill:

Your posts basically re-state my first post, and in that old Lady Robot thread, the links are all dead except for the files bongo_rock re-posted here.

As for your confusion, there are a couple things to note:

1: The CD versions of Robot Couture and Lady Robot are collections of the main albums and their underscore albums.  So, SCD 017 contains tracks from SON 295, 296, & 297.  I included these CD versions here for completeness and also because I believe there are slight differences between some tracks here and the original LPs.  I hope to gather my evidence on this soon.

2: Discogs commonly has mistakes when it comes to library music.  Case in point - The entry for SCD 017 is a mess.
https://www.discogs.com/Robot-Couture/release/11340665

As you say, it shows 14 tracks, but that only accounts for the "main versions".  Sonoton's site shows the true tracklist as:

1 (2:52) ROBOT COUTURE - Laszlo Bencker
2 (1:56) ROBOT COUTURE - Laszlo Bencker
3 (2:34) FEMINIQUE - John Epping
4 (2:06) FEMINIQUE - John Epping
5 (2:56) TECHNOCLASS - Laszlo Bencker
6 (1:54) TECHNOCLASS - Laszlo Bencker
7 (2:48) START AGAIN - Gregor F. Narholz
8 (1:25) START AGAIN - Gregor F. Narholz
9 (2:33) DANCING BYTES - John Epping
10 (1:51) DANCING BYTES - John Epping
11 (3:22) VIBRAPHONOID - Laszlo Bencker
12 (2:16) VIBRAPHONOID - Laszlo Bencker
13 (2:38) ROBOT ROMANCE - John Epping
14 (1:26) ROBOT ROMANCE - John Epping
15 (3:04) TECHNOFUNK - Laszlo Bencker
16 (2:12) TECHNOFUNK - Laszlo Bencker
17 (3:05) NEVER GIVE UP - John Epping
18 (2:41) NEVER GIVE UP - John Epping
19 (2:56) ROBOT CONTROL - Laszlo Bencker
20 (1:39) ROBOT CONTROL - Laszlo Bencker
21 (3:00) SUMMER LEAVES - John Epping
22 (2:13) SUMMER LEAVES - John Epping
23 (3:30) VOGUE OF THE DAY - Laszlo Bencker
24 (1:37) VOGUE OF THE DAY - Laszlo Bencker
25 (3:49) GAMMADION - John Epping
26 (1:27) GAMMADION - John Epping
27 (3:09) ROBOTICALLY - Laszlo Bencker
28 (1:53) ROBOTICALLY - Laszlo Bencker

This is why I am constantly tempted to wade back into the fray and correct some entries.

Thanks very much for the insights, AbeFroman. The "Twindisc" cover art for (CD) SCD 017 demonstrates your point about combining main albums and their underscore albums. Hoping to see some more CD rips perhaps…

Thanks, Retronic- much appreciated! I’m going to have to spend some time today figuring out how the pieces fit together- should know more shortly.

Thanks again, Retronic- there are still some questions/inconsistencies I'm trying to sort out, but the one album we don't have represented at all, in any of the DLs here is:

Robot Couture - (Underscores 2)
Sonoton ‎– SON 297  1988 LP, 30 tracks

https://www.discogs.com/Laszlo-Bencker-Robot-Couture-Underscores-2/release/1937980

It would be great to get this one if you have it. Thanks!

kimhill - We're kind of getting off the rails here.

Retronic - The first post of the thread shows what is still needed.  I appreciate any help you can lend.

How so? Unless mentioning a related Sonoton while Retronic digs into the crates is somehow "off the rails"…

Also, in response to Retronic's kind offer, I believe I've identified the biggest music gap here: Robot Couture  (Underscores 2). If you have a different perspective, I'd love to hear it.
