Something had to have been in the air... Could it have been because of Jaws and the Inner Space doc?

I wouldn't say there was a particular reason other than the necessity to underline certain videos and images.
I mean, it's a part of the trend of that era. The same that happened in many other fields like space, industry, and so on.
A great library sub-genre btw. Indeed.

That's true. And I agree - one of my favorite common categories in this music for sure, along with say, 'pastoral' and a lot of those 'industry' / 'entertainment' records.

Lol yeah, he might've had something to do with it too.

The eternal relationship between water and health, in which music acts as its transmitter.

I blame Jacques Cousteau.

That was my thought, as well. Great question.

The obvious answer is that it probably had to do with an increase in aquatic-themed documentaries, tv shows, etc.

On another level, consider that the human body is 60-70 percent water, and the surface of Earth is covered by approximately 70 percent of the wet stuff.

Add in that we begin our physical existence floating around in amniotic fluid in our mother's womb. Some of my favorite underwater library music kind of makes me think of this might sound.

Deeper still, the human psyche likely has been affected by past catastrophic flood events.  Good chance our DNA has been stamped by these traumas, but that's another issue.

The sounds are just really cool, and relaxing.  :)
