Amphonic AMP LP1
« on: April 26, 2020, 07:04:54 AM »

I already had Amphonic AMPS LP 101, but it's a tad bit too crackly, so
I purchased a new one from a seller on Discogs. The sleeve was missing,
so the price was low. It came in a grey cardboard cover, which I think it's the original. Then it turned out that the record itself was a MONO MIX of AMPS 101! I can't find it listed on Discogs and it lacks "AMPS 101" on the label. Instead the labels say AMP LP1A/AMP LP1B. Has anyone been aware of the existence of this rarity/anomaly?
It could be that it's a promo of some sort. My guess is that Syd Dale
considered doing mono releases on his Amphonic label before he decided to go for that newfangled stereo. Anyway, it sounds jolly good in mono too.
Enjoy.

I can't help with the stereo/mono version question, but I guess we're lucky that library labels did choose to go to stereo so soon.

I have a nice clean stereo FLAC of AMPS 101 which I'm happy to post here if you like.

Yes, I usually perfer stereo.
I should have mentioned that I later bought a 2nd cleaner stereo copy, so I have my own nice rip of it. Maybe someone else need it?
In fact, I've been thinking of sharing all my Amphonic rips here, but I need
time to split and tag them first, don't know when that can happen.
They sound better than the web flac dl's that's floating around.
I should also do some basic removal of pops and clicks. Most of them are in NM condition.
I have most of the yellows and most of the dark blues.
