Brian Clemens' Thriller : Music from the TV movies
« on: January 12, 2020, 08:57:25 PM »
Hi. I compiled this page many years ago, trying to piece together all the various library tracks were used in the TV Movie versions (edited for US TV) of the ATV series 'Thriller'. Having managed to ID quite a few of them, there are still a handful of tracks that have eluded me...

http://www.mcmweb.co.uk/thriller/

Links are available to the unknown tracks. Please have a listen, and you can identify any of them, it would be gratefully appreciated.

I'm guessing you know this already, but the two "A Killer in Every Corner" clips both start with a harp rendition of the Minuet from Boccherini's String Quintet in E.

Apart from that, there's nothing I immediately recognize, sorry. Some cool synth sounds in these cues, though! :)

The first part of 'A Killer....' is 'Classical Minuet' by David Snell, from KPM 1199, not sure what the brassier track that makes up the second part is. (It sounds like a Bruton, possibly Brian Bennett, but don't quote me on that!)

"A Place To Die (Close)" is "Montée au Calvaire" by Vladimir Cosma from Patchwork Library PW 03 (this kinda sounds like a track used Monty Python used in Life Of Brian but can't think of which part)
"I'm The Girl He Wants To Kill" is "Sulle Rovine" by Complesso Fabor from the World Library WLP 101
"In The Steps of a Dead Man (Open)" it has parts of "Destructive Powers" by David Fanshwae from KPM 1152
The brassier bit in "A Killer In Every Corner (Open)" is "Tension and Release" by John Scott from KPM 1172
"Deep In Deep Water (Open)" is "Motor City" by Nick Ingman from KPM 1206

Hi folks.

The main haunting music, with overlaid military sound effects, heard in 'In the Steps of a Dead Man' is ‘The Elements 4’ by Eric Towren, from the Sylvester Music Library, part of De Wolfe.

There is a recently published major book on the series (over 700 pages) which references (most of) the music as heard in all the TVM titles sequences of 43 episodes, in a dedicated section for each story. Covering just about every topic on 'Thriller' it's available at the following link (for Britain) and similar for US, Australia, Canada and across the world in local currency without international postage (this week with 15% discount of total price using the code WINTER15 ) ...

Hope it might be of interest.
Please PM me if anyone would like me to email them a detailed breakdown of the book.

I see Mark has compiled a wonderful page of mp3 links for many of these library tracks, so evocative of the 'Thriller' movie-titled versions seen across the world during the 80s and 90s.

Wonderful listening. Really recommended.

Also a shameless plug on my behalf! Coverage of the music used in these sequences is also in my book. Anyone fancying to spend some Christmas money on a copy - there's currently a 15% discount on lulu (until the end of New Years day) with the code NEWYOU15 (case sensitive) - can find it at the following link

I’m enjoying reading it. It’s incredibly in-depth and covers surely every possible aspect of a TV show.  Definitely going to rewatch some episodes.

That's great to hear! I really wanted to cover 'everything' and the research opened up some surprising avenues.

Any questions arise, please do email me. Happy reading!

Keith Mansfield’s ‘Softly, Softly’ is retitled for that 90’s CD release and was originally ‘Fatal Error’ (KPM 1124).
