Technical Question
« on: March 05, 2021, 11:35:32 AM »
Hi everyone

(Admin - I hope I've posted this in the correct place and format, if not, please delete/move as required.  Thanks!)

I've acquired a handful of long play (4 hour) Muzak 8 track cartridges.  They do contain library music so I'm confident I can discuss and ask the question somewhere in this forum!    My question is a technical one, the tapes/carts state "will not play on standard domestic equipment" and the tape speed is listed at 4.75 cm/ sec.   I'm led to believe if played on a 'normal' 8 track player they would play too fast?

Thing is, I've not seen any 8 track players that appear to have the facility to play a tape at 4.75cm/ sec so do any of you tech heads know a way round this?   MY own thought was to get a normal 8 track player, transfer the recordings to Audacity and try and slow them them down from there?   Any help/info/advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Tony

I know nothing about this only as much to say your idea around Audacity was my thought too and would be easy to do.
Is the stuff on them not available elsewhere?

Very interesting
Only thing you need to figure out is difference of playing speeds in percentage % between normal player and given 4.75cm/s
There are players with speed control too, so maybe thats the best solution.
