hey Blackpaidwatch which Prog Bands do you like the most?
;D The classics never disappoint. Yes, ELP, King Crimson, PFM, Genesis (pre-1980), Gentle Giant, National Health, Kenso... Some new bands don't do too bad either. Moon Safari, Jaga Jazzist, Änglagård, Wobbler, they really get the spirit of the old recordings and make new classics.
Those groups are classics but some obscure ones like Blast Furnace, Apoteosi, Ballettirosadimacchia and Blakulla are very underrated groups and deserve more attention.

An interesting thread!

Just about everything I listen to has a 'feeling' or link to my childhood in the 60's/70's. Hence I'm big into prog rock..
but also love the incidental and theme tunes from TV from that era - which is how I ended up here!

I found a lot of these references in the music of Stereolab, The High Llamas and Broadcast.
Also this beautiful album..

Those of us who grew up in England in the 70's may remember the  terrifying public information films and scary (kids) TV like "Children of the Stones" - Much of this is captured by the Hauntology genre, and I highly recommend checking out the Ghost Box record label - Artists such as The Advisory Circle and Belbury Poly produce marvelous 'electronic folk' that invokes a misremembered past.

Also recommended is The Moon Wiring Club  - strange Edwardian electronic music!

Stay safe folks!

And this is why I never visit farms as an adult

Donald Pleasence!! Hahaha, how fitting! Btw, love this actor. Also did a great job in Wake in Fright (1971) - also incidentally one hell of a thriller and great soundtrack by John Scott.

Anyway, this "inoculating children against the dangers of life by traumatising them" approach is familiar, it reminds me of a creepy German booklet issued by BP in the 1950s

Or consider this German "classic" from 1861

All sorts!

Current collecting/listening obsessions are Funana, Cumbia, steel band funk, Turkish psychedelic rock, Italo Disco, Maghreb region music (synth rai)... but the list goes on and new tangents crop up almost weekly.

It’s why I’ll never be an expert on anything  ;D
