THREAD - HOW DOES IT SOUND?
« on: May 15, 2021, 11:25:44 AM »
Hey guys, gals,

As I often find myself scratching my head over library releases, wondering how they sounds, if they're any good -- relatively, because I do mostly love the 80s, how they sound... so I thought I'd start a thread here, where people (library masters) could share a bit more of their knowledge, about unknown/not 'listene-able' online releases.

I use Discogs as a data base, but any link could work.

There, I did it :)

Cheers,
R

Hi Stio2039, welcome to the forum

To be honest, everyone will have a different opinion which makes the whole library music experience more fun.  Many unknown or rare labels and artists are shared on the site along with members own rips.  So really, we could do with finding out a bit more about you, the types of genres involved, including rock, pop, electronic, pastoral etc.  Or if you have a preference for labels and/or composers.  The big library labels to get you going would including Amphonic, Boosey & Hawkes, Bruton, Chappel, Editions Montparnasse 2000, Joseph Weinberger, KPM, Music DeWolfe, Parry Music, Sonoton, Telemusic, Themes.  There are 100's of others to choose from.

Many would argue that the golden age of library music would be the 60's and 70's and that it veered off a bit in the mid 80's onwards.  That said, there are some classic albums still to be found in the 80's and 90's.

Oh. Aah. OK.

My post/this thread was only an idea I had for people to ask how releases sounded. Just plain old description I guess, or maybe clips/audio.

Wasn't talking about me and my relation to library music especially haha!

Thanks for the interest in my taste though tonyc1971.

Well, YT is a good source for library music.  There are loads of thematic based channels out there.  One channel is dedicated to Bruton Music and another to KPM, which are the biggest in the UK, so start from there.  But search around as you will find plenty of other users channels and you will end up falling down a rabbit hole as other suggested vids will appear on the right and side that have uploaded tracks and full albums to peruse.

One channel that frequently posts is AlexB and is vary varied so you will get to see more styles, genres, composers, labels, decades etc etc.  This user has introduced me to so much obscure and hard to find music.  Many feature in this forum thankfully.

These are good ways to track down the music out there that may be of particular interest.  Then search LMT for any links to those tracks or albums that you are interested in.  Once you start, you will get hooked !
